Ruben Oliva represents individuals and
companies accused of crimes in Federal Court. Ruben was
born in Washington, D.C. and was raised in Miami,
Florida. He received his bachelors degree in public
policy studies from Duke University in 1983, and obtained his law degree from the University of
Miami in 1986. He has been in private practice
since 1987 and is a member of the Florida Bar and
is admitted to practice in the Southern, Middle and
Northern Districts of the United States District
Courts. He is also admitted to practice before the
United States Appellate Court for the Eleventh
Circuit.
Ruben is a member in good standing of the National
Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida
Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association
of Trial Lawyers of America, the American Bar
Association and the Cuban American Bar Association. He
is a member of the criminal law section for both
the N.A.C.D.L. and the A.B.A. Ruben has been a
trustee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and
currently serves on the City of Miami's Property and
Asset Review Committee.
Ruben has represented clients throughout the nation
including Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, and New
York. He is frequently retained by clients accused
of federal crimes including narcotics violations, money
laundering, Medicare and Medicaid fraud, credit card
fraud, alien smuggling, bank robbery, Hobbs Act crimes,
Lacey Act violations and other environmental and
white collar crimes. He is often retained by individuals
and other lawyers on sentencing issues, post sentencing
relief, and matters pertaining to substantial assistance
to the Government. Ruben has represented clients at
all stages of a criminal proceeding including
pre-indictment investigation, Grand Jury
appearances, bond hearings, trials, sentencing
hearings, post-sentencing matters and appeals. He
frequently participates in federal guideline sentencing
seminars and has met many of the members of the Federal
Sentencing Commission.
When he is not working Ruben enjoys reading, biking,
traveling and spending time with his wife and two
children.
